Looks like a new development pushed the restaurant out.

Ashok Selvam is the editor of Eater Chicago and a native Chicagoan armed with more than two decades of award-winning journalism. Now covering the world of restaurants and food, his nut graphs are super nutty.

Over the last 10 years, Ma & I filled a void for South Loop Thai food fans. The beloved restaurant forged a large customer base, thanks to a reliable take-out operation. Now South Loopers will have to find a new spot, as the restaurant is officially closed.

Sloopin spotted a note tacked onto the restaurant's door announcing the closure, which was effective Nov. 30. The note thanked Ma & I's customers and said the decision to close came with a heavy heart: "We love taking care of you, and thank you for taking care of us too."

Another business in the same building, the Sixpax pilates studio, is also closed, leading Sloopin to guess a new development will eventually replace the existing structure. Perhaps that development will actually include a restaurant to help serve the booming South Loop population. It would make sense.
