After 31 years, Ed Debevic's has been reduced to pile of River North wreckage. A Reddit user snapped a photo of the scene, caught by Curbed Chicago. Construction crews will build a 22-story residential tower at the site, as Ed's closed in October.
There's still no word when or where Ed's will eventually return. Ownership had announced that they wanted to rebuild the restaurant in mid-2016 close to the same spot so all those tourists and school groups could continue to grab burgers and shakes while enjoying that vintage diner experience. Keep it here for updates, but in the meantime admire the wrecking crew's work.
