As Community Tavern continues to gain traction in Portage Park, owner Quay Tao is shuttering his first restaurant in the working class neighborhood. The Portage, Tao's eclectic eatery with plenty of fans on the Northwest Side, will close for good on New Years Eve, Tao revealed in the restaurant's newsletter and social media over the weekend that was picked up by DNAinfo.

Tao didn't say why he is closing or what will happen to the space, but the Facebook post did reveal that "we are excited for some new projects in 2016 and will announce more details as soon as we can." The Portage opened in June 2010 at 3938 N. Central Ave.
