Walk Through The Spanish Square, Opening Today in Lakeview

The space aims to recreate those food markets in Spain.

The Spanish Square's finally opening its doors at 3 p.m. today, giving West Lakeview a space inspired by the popular food markets in Spain. For the uninitiated, imagine a space that's parts tapas bar, cafe, restaurant and grocer. They'll be serving up Spanish seafood, cured meats and hard-to-find cheeses.

The cafe greets guests as they enter with circular European-styled chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. There's a wine cellar with a black metal gate that looks like it belongs in a vineyard. Bar seating allows patrons to grab a quick bite from the counter, perhaps some jamón or hard-aged Manchego.

Folks will feel like they're stepping in from la plaza, so check out the photos above. Today, they're only open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for their open house, but they'll commence regular hours on Friday.

The Spanish Square, 1358 W. Belmont Ave. (773) 717-7900, open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday; 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturday. Closed on Monday.
