Plead The Sixth: Inside Lincoln Square's Long-Awaited Cocktail Lounge, Opening Today

Lincoln Square's not just about German beer.

There's no need for Lincoln Square residents to leave their neighborhood for a great cocktail now that The Sixth has arrived. The same folks from Roots Handmade Pizza are finally opening their neighboring companion cocktail lounge today, bringing some of Ben Schiller's signature drinks from The Berkshire Room and all-new concoctions to the North Side.

The trio of opening bartenders, including Schiller, live in Lincoln Square. Fifty/50 Restaurant Group's Scott Weiner and Greg Mohr are behind the 50-seat space designed by Nick Bowers of blocHaus fame (The Berkshire Room, Roots, Lillie's Q). And they're catering to a drinker's sense of nostalgia with some of the beverages like the Trix cereal-inspired "Silly Rabbit."

The lounge is filled with dark and warm colors, illuminated by mid-century-inspired fixtures: Check out the marble tables and Dutch modern-influenced furniture. Guests can rest their beverages on inset brass drink grates on the bar that make cocktail napkins obsolete. Inspired by chef's tables, The Sixth features three bartenders tables so patrons can see how bartenders mix their drinks. There's also a surprise management dropped last week: They're serving döner kebabs. Check out the photos above.

The Sixth, 2200 W. Lawrence Ave. (773) 433-5959, open 5 p.m. until 2 a.m. daily. Closes at 2 a.m. on Sunday.
