The Winchester is losing executive chef/partner Greg Bastien at the end of the year. Bastien, who opened the Ukrainian Village restaurant nearly two years ago, is relocating to Grand Rapids, Mich. in order to be closer to his family "due to personal reasons." His last day of service will be this Thursday, Dec. 31.
In a statement, Bastien states that he "sincerely appreciate(s) the opportunities and friendships" developed during his time at The Winchester, adding that he wishes everyone at the restaurant "the best of luck in continuing as strong as ever."
An electrical fire forced The Winchester to temporarily shutter for five weeks earlier this year. Through fundraisers, Bastien and owner Chris Pappas bounced back with a revamped menu, ending breakfast service in the process.
The restaurant, which plans to be closed Jan. 4 through 7, is currently talking to "several executive chefs" to take the outgoing chef's place. Expect an announcement on Bastien's replacement in the coming weeks.
