Here's an update on that special Gino's East planned for Pilsen that will feature pizzas with Mexican flavors, inspired by the Chicago deep-dish chain's location in Mexico City. They've finally revealed a location, as Gino's will take over the former Lucha Dulce spot at 1659 W. 21st St. Management offered no comment when the space will open, but city records show they've applied for a liquor license which included the restaurant's address.
When Gino's revealed their plans in August, they touted a Mexican-influenced deep-dish pizza, with items such as chorizo and jalapeños stuffed into their signature pies, capitalizing on Pilsen's Mexican demographics. Other items from Mexico City, like chipotle meatballs, could also make their way to the Pilsen spot. What exactly will appear on the menu? Check back later for any updates.
UPDATE: Gino's officials now say they're targeting a mid-February opening.
