And for the latest in stealth Brendan Sodikoff openings: A coffee shop with a world-renowned Japanese latte champion. The Hogsalt founder is partnering with Hiroshi Sawada to open the coffee master's first United States location on Saturday, Sawada Coffee, which takes over a section of the West Loop building that houses Green Street Smoked Meats and High Five Ramen. The space, which Sodikoff was once planning to use for a juice and nut milk bar called Jack and Juice, seats 15, overlooks Green Street and Soho House across the street, and houses a ping pong table.
To drink, Sawada and Hogsalt have a small, interesting menu (below) of specialty coffee drinks and boozy steamers, as well as traditional and more affordable espresso drinks and teas. There's also a selection of Doughnut Vault treats. Sawada, who was the founder of Streamer Coffee Company in Tokyo, won the latte world championship in 2008 and is a world-renowned coffee star.
Sawada Coffee, 112 N. Green St., (312) 754-0431, open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
