Chicago's getting yet another new brewery as Whiner Beer plans an opening next month inside The Plant, the food-incubator complex in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood. The brewery also includes a 2,000-square-foot taproom so visitors can indulge in a few samples, according to a spokeswoman.

Whiner will focus on barrel-aged beers and represents a collaboration between Brian Taylor, a former brewer at Goose Island Brewing, and Ria Neri, a cicerone formerly at Bangers & Lace. They'll combine traditional Belgian brewing techniques to create wild ales, using alternative yeasts and adjuncts.

Overall, the space is 17,000 square feet, and all that's holding up the December opening is permits, a familiar situation for anyone in the industry.
