Nando's Peri-Peri's Saturday Loop Opening Concludes Chicago Expansion Wave

Chicago Fire fans gets a bonus this weekend as players will make appearances.

Ashok Selvam is the editor of Eater Chicago and a native Chicagoan armed with more than two decades of award-winning journalism. Now covering the world of restaurants and food, his nut graphs are super nutty.

Six months ago, zero Nando's Peri-Peri operated in Chicago. But on Saturday, the South African grilled chicken chain will open its fourth restaurant within the city's borders. The Loop location opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday at 22 S. Wabash.

Saturday's opening concludes the initial Chicago expansion for Nando's, which made its way from South Africa, using that country's spices in its interpretation of Portuguese-style grilled chicken. Nando's debuted in America in 2008 in Washington, D.C. and operates more than 1,000 spots across the globe, and sells its spicy sauces in retail outlets all across the U.S.

As a bonus, as a play on Nando's fiery offerings, they've enlisted players from the Chicago Fire to make appearances over the weekend. They're donating 100 percent of profits from the weekend to the Major League Soccer team's charity, which aids disadvantaged youth, according to a statement.
