South Water Kitchen to Shutter, Reconcept In December In Loop

Renovations will close it until the spring.

Look for something new in the space that currently houses South Water Kitchen in a few months. The restaurant and bar next to Kimpton's Hotel Monaco at 225 N. Wabash in The Loop will close after service on Dec. 19 and reopen with a new concept in the spring, according to hotel reps.

Expect a renovated space with an expanded bar and lounge as well as upgraded food and beer menus with more craft beer, craft cocktails, and a focus on local ingredients and house-cured meats. The restaurant also renovated in late 2012/early 2013.

South Water Kitchen has gained some buzz for its drinks program in recent months, as head bartender Dan Rook picked up a Zagat 30 under 30 nod and was also named RedEye's best bartender of 2015. Rook will remain on staff, as will chef Roger Waysok.
