Ashok Selvam is the editor of Eater Chicago and a native Chicagoan armed with more than two decades of award-winning journalism. Now covering the world of restaurants and food, his nut graphs are super nutty.

As Band of Bohemia, the hotly-anticipated "culinary brewpub" in Ravenswood, pushes toward their planned opening early next month, management continues to round out the restaurant's staff. They've nabbed Kevin McMullen, former Brixton executive chef and member of the 2012 class of Eater's Young Guns Final 50, as chef de cuisine. BOB also named former Acadia bar team member Carlos Matias as the restaurant's bar lead.

McMullen had been at The Brixton since its open. He worked with BOB's Executive Chef Matt DuBois while at EL Ideas where McMullen served as the executive sous chef. The two will work together on a unique menu concept that's driven by beer pairings. There's also the matter of a wood-fired grill, a trendy concept that's picked up steam recently.

Matias promises a balanced and seasonal cocktail list with some twists on classic drinks. He worked with Dustin Drankiewicz at The Promontory, saying he considered Drankiewicz a mentor.

Construction continues at Band of Bohemia's site at 4710 N. Ravenswood Ave. The ambitious project from Craig Sindelar and Michael Carroll, who met while working at Alinea, is only a few more weeks until opening. The band is almost ready.
