Count Shonda Rhimes as the latest recruit in the ongoing war involving deep-dish and thin-crust pizza. The mastermind producer and writer behind TV hits including "Scandal," "Grey's Anatomy" and "How to Get Away with Murder" fired her salvo, but with a bit of a twist. The Chicago-area native told Food & Wine that thin-crust pizza is "disgusting."
It's an unusual stance, as most criticism is levied against deep-dish pizza from East Coast elitists such as Jon Stewart and Anthony Bourdain. Rhimes noted her controversial opinion, and relayed that her favorite Chicago spot is Aurelio's Pizza, a South South institution that recently returned to the city with a new restaurant in the South Loop. Her love for deep dish is so...deep...that she even flies in pizza from Chicago on Christmas Eve, according to the Food & Wine story.
Hat tip to the Tribune, which first noticed the story.
