One of Chicago's most underrated newer cocktail bars, Bordel, is rolling out a new menu later in the month—one that's an ode to its Wicker Park home. Inspired by Nelson Algren's classic novel that takes place in the neighborhood, "The Man With The Golden Arm," beverage director Brian Sturgulewski's Eater special cocktail, "Antek, The Owner," is also inspired by the history of the 'hood.
Named for the owner of the book's fictitious whiskey and beer bar on Division Street, the Tug and Maul, the cocktail is a beertail with whiskey, egg, and a touch of sweet. Sturgulewski pours Scotch, Jameson Caskmates whiskey, creme de cacao, demerara syrup, and a whole egg into a shaker without ice. He double strains it into a beer mug, tops with stout, and garnishes with nutmeg.
The drink is as boozy, frothy, and sweet as the neighborhood Algren wrote about in 1949. It's available as an Eater special all this week in honor of Cocktail Week at Bordel.
