If you've been near the Mag Mile lately and have tried to pop into E.Leaven for a bagel or a sandwich, you may have noticed darkened lights and a sign on the door. That's because the bakery, breakfast and lunch standby closed its flagship bakery and eatery on Ontario Street in order to move to a new production facility that will focus on catering operations for the near future.
Director of corporate catering and business development Richard Howell says the company, which also has a location in Wyoming, is hoping to open more retail locations downtown in summer or fall, as well as offer their products in markets and stores. The E.Leaven food trucks will still roam the streets.
It is unknown what will take E.Leaven's place at 54 E. Ontario Street. E.Leaven was in business for more than six years there, giving tourists and office workers an option for in-house baked goods, sandwiches, and other fast-casual breakfast and lunch options.
