THE LOOP— Top Chef alum Spike Mendelsohn's project, Good Stuff Eatery is now targeted for a Jan. 28 opening at 22 S. Wabash St. Originally targeted for a November opening, Mendelsohn, a D.C. native with strong Chicago ties, promises new twists on local classics and new dishes, including the Prez Obama Burger. LAKEVIEW— Fahlstrom's Fresh Fish Market failed to impress The Reader's Mike Sula. Sula says that Fahlstrom's missteps — overcooked fish, out-of-season vegetables and under-seasoned fish — are symptomatic of missteps at Glenn Fahlstrom's former restaurant, Glenn's Diner. However, the Vienna Beef Rueben, ironically, was the best thing Sula said he ate at the seafood stop. [Reader]
LINCOLN PARK— The day after his restaurant closes, Senza chef Noah Sandoval will preside as the guest chef at Juno for its Omakase dinner. Only six seats are available for the special meal on Sunday, Jan. 18. The cost hasn't been announced, but it could be in same ballpark as the $500 per person, 15-course menu at Juno for its collaboration with Grace in November. [EaterWire]
DVR ALERT— Chicagoans have two local contestants to rally behind when MasterChef Junior debuts this season at 7 p.m. Tuesday on Fox Chicago. There's 9-year-old Phillip "Philly" Vazanna, who attends Bridgeport's Mark Sheridan Math and Science Academy. Then there's 12-year-old Jack Lembeck from Lincoln Park, who reportedly reads from Charlie Trotter's cookbook. [DNAinfo]
ANDERSONVILLE— Erickson's Delicatessen, 5250 N. Clark St., remains "closed until further notice" after city officials forced the shutter right before Christmas. The deli was operating on a suspended license, as it closed on Dec. 2 for health code violations. [Edgeville Buzz]
