Address: 139 N. Wabash
A Loop staple from 1920 to 1984, Blackhawk restaurant brought in crowds with its fine steaks and signature Spinning Salad. Servers would pour dressing over a whirling bowl of 21 ingredients while describing the process, a concept taken from Lawry’s the Prime Rib out in California at the time. The restaurant was also known for its live big-band entertainment and specialty prime rib rolling cart service. After the original location shuttered, its legacy lived on at Don Roth’s Blackhawk in Wheeling until that spot closed as well in 2009.
