La Diosa, the upcoming restaurant from chef Laura Martinez—who also happens to be blind—is due to begin serving customers this Friday, according to DNAinfo. This is possibly the first Chicago restaurant run by a blind chef.
The doors to the 450 square-foot space at 2308 N. Clark St. were opened briefly this past Friday for a soft opening to media and friends. The restaurant's menu will focus on Mexican food with French technique.
Martinez, who was employed in the Charlie Trotter's kitchen in its final years, has been working to open La Diosa the past two years. On previous reporting, Martinez indicated the menu will feature a dish honoring her culinary mentor: fried chicken and potato gratin.
The restaurant will open this Friday at 11:00 a.m. La Diosa's regular hours will be 8:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sundays, closed on Mondays.
