J. Rocco Italian Table & Bar abruptly closed last week in River North after lasting a little less than a year and a half. Management made the decision to shutter on Jan. 7, according to an answering service fielding phone calls for the restaurant. They're selling the space and anticipate to close the deal in 15 to 30 days. The closing will help make that transaction smoother, as they expect "immediate occupancy."

J. Rocco opened in May 2013 with chef Steve Chiappetti joining Joe Frasca. They eventually added a second-floor bar in September 2013. Chiappetti says he left J. Rocco about a year ago and is now chef at Marion Street Market in Oak Park.

There's no mention of the shutter on J. Rocco's websiteFacebook page or Twitter feed. What do you think will go into that space on Clark Street?
