Cheesie's Pub & Grub got into some hot water today by advertising a ridiculously insensitive "knockout deal.... We're calling it the Ray Rice ;)" via Twitter. The tweet was quickly erased and Cheesie's apologized, blaming the incident on a "disgruntled ex-employee who had Twitter access."
Ray Rice is the (former) NFL running back who was suspended indefinitely for striking and knocking out his then-fiancee in a viral video first released by TMZ. The popular grilled cheese-themed restaurant and bar also tweets that it's "setting up a charitable fundraiser in the near future with center of domestic violence."
Cheesie's has locations in Lakeview, Evanston, runs a food truck, and is building out a Wicker Park location. Read the original apology tweets below.
