Chicago will officially have an Umami Burger in less than two weeks—and Evanston will have an 800 Degrees pizzeria next year. Umami Group reps announced the news for both of owner Adam Fleischman's concepts yesterday via email.
Fleischman and crew have been actively scouting locations for the first Chicago location of his quick-fire pizza chain since March, finally settling on 812 Church Street in Evanston for the 11th 800 Degrees Neopolitan Pizza in the country. The downtown Evanston location, in a former clothing store, will serve pizza, beer and wine from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. daily. Look for that sometime next year.
Meanwhile, Chicago's first Umami Burger, the LA-bred full-service burger chain based on the "fifth taste" that's been making waves on both coasts for years, is finally set to open on September 18 at noon. In the works since early 2013, the Wicker Park location will feature a special "Calabrese Burger" (calabrese sausage patty, truffle cheese fondue and Chicago-style giardiniera on Umami Burger's signature bun), a full bar, a music theme with periodic live music, and around 90 seats. Stay tuned for more on the opening.
Fleischman and company are actively scouting for more local locations for both concepts. But the time is finally near for the first Umami Burger and a location is finally set for the first 800 Degrees.
