The exterior of perhaps the only African-American-owned nightclub and restaurant in River North was the recipient of racist graffiti early this morning. DNAinfo reports that "N----- GO HOME" was spray painted on the Nouveau Tavern facade at some point between 12:30 and 6:30 a.m., before Ald. Reilly's cleaning crew removed it.
Nouveau Tavern has drawn complaints from neighborhood residents for noise and broken bottles since opening last October, as well as police action. Chicago P.D. temporarily shut down the nightclub and restaurant in April for operating without proper licensing, which prompted owner Marsette Magnum to allege racial profiling and "unreasonable" action by the city.
Expect it to open tonight as usual.
