Chicago is getting two more of some of the finest coffee shops in the land. La Colombe, the Philadelphia-based high-end coffee roaster and cafe company which opened its latest Chicago location in the winter under the Damen Blue Line stop in Wicker Park, has two more in the works—in Logan Square and Andersonville.
The Logan Square location, on 2837 W. Fullerton adjacent to the rear exit of Emporium Logan Square, will mostly be a roasting facility for Midwest retail and wholesale. Although it will house events and a training lab, this means that customers won't be able to stop in for a cup and it shouldn't be competition for other Logan coffee shops such as Gaslight Coffee Roasters, which is mere doors west. A rep says it will house a Diedrich CR-25 roaster and expects it to open within 45 days.
The Andersonville location, however, will be a place where many customers will stop in for cups. Slated for the former Vitamin Outlet on the corner of Clark and Foster, reps say that this La Colombe will be their "biggest cafe (so far) in Chicago." Similar to the other La Colombes but larger, it will serve drip coffee, espresso drinks, and Floriole pastries in a shop without wi-fi. Expect lots of seating and light in the corner space, which is targeted for a fall opening.
