Wicker Park Taco Takeover Continues with Tijuana Food Truck Turned Restaurant

Another taco joint is coming to Wicker Park in September. Kokopelli, a taqueria food truck from Tijuana that's recently entered the brick-and-mortar game, has taken over the space formerly occupied by Between Peruvian Cafe & Lounge in advance of a projected September 15 opening.

Specializing in seafood tacos, salsas, and ceviche, Chicago will be Kokopelli's first establishment beyond the Baja coast. Chef Guillermo Campos Moreno—who's spent time in the former kitchen of three-time Michelin star restaurant Oud Sluis in the Netherlands—claims locals refer to his Tijuana location as "Crackopelli."

Kokopelli's dinner menu includes specialties like octopus, fillet of sole, and made-from-scratch toppings like Mexican pesto and a Yucatan-style adobo marinade. Moreno eventually plans to offer a lunch and brunch menu at the 90-seat establishment.
