Hot off his induction over the weekend into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, former White Sox slugger Frank Thomas uncorked news that he would open his new brewpub by the first week of September.
The Big Hurt Brewhouse Twitter handle tweeted yesterday that it's "hoping to be open for the #Bears home opener," which is Sunday, September 7 versus Buffalo. A sign hangs above the brewpub's entrance in Berwyn stating it's coming soon.
Thomas, the Georgia native who won two most valuable player awards and a World Series as a member of the White Sox, announced his intentions of opening the 6,500 square-foot eatery with a bar and microbrewery more than a year ago. Nicknamed "The Big Hurt" for how he crushed or "hurt" baseballs during a 19-year Major League Baseball career, Thomas launched his own brand of brew, Big Hurt Beer, in 2011.
