While construction recently began on Chicago's first Shake Shack, Danny Meyer's Union Hospitality Group has already secured a location for Chicago's second. Shake Shack reps are confirming this morning that another Shake Shack is coming to town, on the ground floor of the new Chicago Athletic Association Hotel at Michigan and Madison. The target opening date is sometime next year.
Meanwhile, construction is finally underway in the former Harley Davidson store on Ohio Street, the site of the first Shake Shack in the Midwest. Rumored since 2012 and confirmed in early 2013, this location will finally bring Meyer's frenzy-inducing burgers and frozen custards—as well as Vienna Beef hot dogs and beer and wine—to town by the end of the year. There's six "interactive life-size sliding puzzles" now affixed to its plywood, and there's already another shack on the way just to the south.
