As of this morning, Lakeview folks can officially get their Dark Matter Coffee buzz on their home turf. The people behind one of Chicago's best coffee roasters and coffee bars (Dark Matter and Star Lounge) soft-opened their new Belmont location, Osmium Coffee Bar, a name that furthers the company's scientific theme. It's the company's first location outside Ukrainian Village; on a Lakeview strip that's historically been hit-and-miss for hospitality projects.

The new spot currently serves an abbreviated menu of Star Lounge staples, including draft iced coffee and two specialty drinks: the agave latte (agave, cinnamon, chocolate) and the "Mayan Mocha" (chocolate, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, agave) in addition to espresso, macchiato, and a few more. Prices run from $2.25 for a 12-ounce drip coffee to $5.50 for a 16-ounce specialty drink. A 10-seat bar and a few tables encompass the seating; water-and-metal-themed murals decorate the walls.

It's been a long time coming for the opening, and after a few construction delays following the expansion announcement more than a year ago, coffee aficionados in Lakeview can finally catch the buzz that people in Ukrainian Village have exulted since 2007.
