The Lincoln Park Vapiano abruptly shuttered earlier this week on Clark Street and the casual Italian eatery is now boarded up. Some employees have been moved to the restaurant's Loop location, according to a staffer at the newer spot downtown, but Vapiano representatives have not yet responded to inquiries.
Vapiano opened the Lincoln Park restaurant, its first in Chicago, in summer 2011 and the Loop location (44 S. Wabash) followed last August. The company, which launched its first restaurant in 2002 in Hamburg, Germany, operates more than 120 locations in 22 countries. Its website lists 11 restaurants in the U.S., including the closed Lincoln Park location, a former Blockbuster video at Clark and Wrightwood. [UPDATE: According to a rep, Vapiano "is moving towards opening in high-traffic, high-visibility locations and the Lincoln Park restaurant, with its neighborhood location, wasn't in keeping with the new directives."]
