While eaters on Southport are getting their own location of one of Chicago's most renowned pizzerias, they're also losing a 12-year restaurant staple. Owner Jimmy Madla is shuttering his neighborhood standout Coobah "most likely" at the end of August to focus on the upcoming Coalfire Pizza location on Southport, which he's a partner in.
Madla broke the news yesterday on the Coobah Facebook page, saying "I need to focus all my efforts on this new project." He was hoping to relocate Coobah—its lease is ending—but nixed those plans and decided to shutter it for good.
Madla says he's "optimistic" that the second, larger Coalfire will open in September, if inspections go as planned. You have until the end of the summer to visit Coobah before it closes.
