The Husky Hog BBQ food truck is bringing a brick-and-mortar barbecue spot to the former Mr. Spanky's in Bridgeport. Husband and wife owners Lauren and Joey Woodel are hoping to open their small new restaurant, which will mirror the food truck's menu but add ribs and possibly products by the pound, on July 7. Mr. Spanky's lasted about 16 months before shuttering on May 20.
Stool seating for four-to-eight people will fill the rustic, Southern-inspired take-out establishment, with a potential for outdoor picnic tables if the sidewalk permit allows. "Our interior is going to harken to barbecue and the south," Lauren Woodel says. "Joey and I are both Southern and want a rustic feel: raw wood, screen doors, comfortable."
The Bridgeport location will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The plan is to close on Mondays and Tuesdays, but Tennessee-style barbecue lovers can often find the Husky Hog truck on the street.
