More than a year has passed since word broke about Moxee, a restaurant and "nanobrewery" heading to the former home of Junior's Sports Lounge on Maxwell Street near UIC. And while it was originally slated for last summer, the doors will finally open to the public today at 4 p.m.
Moxee is from the people behind Prairie Moon in Evanston; a 120-seat restaurant with a small in-house brewery component. The food has a mostly Southern theme, with everything from barbecue to gumbo, crab cakes to tacos, etouffee to po'boys on the menu.
The brewery aspect has its own name (Mad Mouse Brewing) and they're opening with two in-house beer collaborations with Michigan's Saugatuck Brewing on the list: a Kolsch and a pale ale with three types of hops. There's also a decent selection of local craft, some classic-leaning cocktails and a small wine selection. The website isn't functional yet but read the full menus below.
A 50-seat outdoor patio is coming soon. With spring finally arriving in force, they picked a good time to open the doors and fire up the taps.
