Charlie McKenna Opening Fried Chicken Takeout Window at Lillie's Q

Charlie McKenna's Lillie's Q is adding a takeout window on the Wolcott Avenue side of the restaurant to serve up their signature smoked fried chicken on the go. Dubbed LQ Chicken Shack, it will come in handy for the restaurant in multiple ways as it will also serve as a pick-up window for call in orders, as well as a station for deliveries.

McKenna, who is currently at the annual Memphis In May BBQ competition, says that the idea came about nine months ago and that they're adding an exhaust hood, additional fryers and more cooking space in their basement. Additionally, since he dislikes going to a restaurant only to find out they've run out of a signature menu item, he plans on ordering more chicken to meet demand.

Customers can order chicken in various sizes (they'll be serving up buckets of fried chicken just like the Colonel used to), along with sides (which will include new additions of housemade potato chips and potato salad). Drinks can be ordered at the window as well and guests have the option to sit and enjoy their meal on the restaurant's patio. The chicken will come with the Lillie's Q sauce of your choice and a side of Tupelo honey.

The inside of the takeout area, which was formerly the space for the host stand, is now sectioned off by a wall of chicken wire. The plan is for the window to open around the middle of June and McKenna is currently considering adding a second fried chicken option, perhaps something more traditionally southern, to the menu.

Update: Drinks will not be able to be purchased from the takeout window and the patio will not be available for takeout window orders.
