Starbucks Opens its First Tea Bar in the Midwest

The first Teavana Fine Teas + Tea Bar in Chicago—and off either coast—is officially open for business on Southport. The location is debuting a new line of tea, Teavana Oprah Chai, in honor of, and in partnership with, TV legend Oprah Winfrey.

Part tea store and part café, Teavana in Lakeview includes a "wall of tea" filled with loose leaf and blended teas, as well as food items that are either inspired by or designed to pair with teas (salads, flatbreads, small plates, desserts and more).

The shop also offers a variety of non-traditional tea beverages (including tea smoothies, lattes, and something called a "floating cherry blossom" made with coconut lychee jelly, mango puree and Sakura Allure cherry green tea) as well as tea merchandise for customers to purchase.

Teavana, which also has locations in New York City and Seattle, was purchased by Starbucks in 2012 and the plan is for the company to expand further.
