You have less than two weeks to say goodbye to David Burke's "handwiches." Word came down this morning that Burke's Bacon Bar, his bacon-themed sandwich and retail shop next door to the James Hotel, is shuttering on May 4. It opened to the public in August and lasted less than nine months.
The reasons behind the decision are currently unknown, but a rep sends this info: "It has been a pleasure serving the Chicago community, and we are excited to make way for new happenings in the space, including a new outdoor patio lounge for JIMMY at The James Chicago." Stay tuned.
[UPDATE: Burke's Bacon Bar will become an "extended entrance" into Jimmy.]
