Time Out Chicago's Amy Cavanaugh visited the recently re-opened Charcoal Bar (which is underneath Sumi Robata Bar) "three times" before writing her rave review. Michael Simon, whose first night was this past Valentine's day, "has a ton of personality" compared to the former bartender Matthew "Choo" Lipsky and the once "quiet, sometimes awkward bar has become a lot more fun," Cavanaugh says.

Cavanaugh states that getting a seat is not an issue and, though it may take the "one-man show" a bit of time to prepare your cocktail (all with names referencing the hit HBO show Game of Thrones), each "was balanced and thoughtful." She adds that Simon will even make whatever you want, citing "an absolutely killer Negroni."
