Pedro Suarez's stay in Lakeview was short and controversial. The (former) restaurant owner moved his Sabor Cubano concept from suburban Addison to Lakeview last June, but that restaurant is now closed, according to a sign on the door proclaiming new ownership, management and concept coming soon.
But while it was open, a long list of customers allege credit card fraud via vastly overcharged bills. Some diners claim the restaurant overcharged as much as $1000 and that management disappeared when they tried to rectify the situation; many of these allegations are visible on Foursquare and Yelp. Sabor Cubano ownership could not be reached for comment.
One diner, Kristina Stevens of Lakeview, says that management was "receptive" at first but the phone line was disconnected when she tried to follow up on her claim. "I was stunned," she says. "Something really sketchy is happening there."
Suarez and Sabor Cubano were also hit with lawsuits. In January, SCA Realty filed a joint action suit in Cook County Court for $49,000 that ended with an order for possession. Gonnella Baking Company filed a lesser suit ($770) last month for a contract complaint.
New ownership and management took over the space on March 1, according to the sign, and will be opening a "latin fusion" restaurant following "small remodeling."
