After a little more than a year as the chef de cuisine at Big Star, Cary Taylor is leaving Wicker Park's perpetually-busy taco and whiskey hotspot. Taylor and his family are relocating to Kansas City for personal reasons.
An exact date for his exit hasn't been decided yet and he doesn't have a chef job lined up in Kansas City, either. "I'm not moving down there to open Cary Taylor's star-studded restaurant or anything," he says, adding that he's "leaving here on great terms." He states that the move is "tough" considering he's been in Chicago for twelve years, but that it was necessary for his family.
Taylor, who spent five years as the executive chef at The Southern before joining the Big Star team in October 2013, had previously worked for One Off Hospitality at Blackbird.
Meanwhile, One Off has begun searching for his replacement. The right candidate should definitely be prepared to handle the high volume that the taqueria is known for.
