After 2 1/2 Years, Pane Caldo's Finally Reopening Tomorrow

Beloved Italian joint will reopen less than a half a mile from original location off Michigan Avenue.

It's been a long time coming but Pane Caldo's finally returning on Friday.

Two and a half years have passed since the original Pane Caldo at 72 E. Walton St. shuttered, but Chicago Magazine reports the wait is almost over with tomorrow's reopening at 111 E. Chestnut. Now owned by the folks behind Pizzeria del Mercato on Fulton Market, they'll hope to rebuild the reputation that drew diners to the original Italian spot nearby.

The windows are still papered up, but shiny balloons appeared inside a dining room of mirrors and dark wood. New ownership obviously has a reason to celebrate but are still keeping mum on the details.

The first word of Pane Caldo's return came in August.
