Horizon Cafe Owners Plan Spring Opening For New Restaurant and Bar in Boystown

Nicky Street Urban Grille stresses smoked meats, craft cocktails and an inclusive environment.

There's a new restaurant and bar heading to Broadway, one from the folks behind Boystown's Horizon Cafe. The opening of Nicky Street Urban Grille, two doors south of Horizon (3801 N. Broadway St.), will depend on securing the necessary permits, owner Nick Cocalis said, but he's hoping to open in spring.

He promised a warm atmosphere for his new project, one that welcomes folks of every persuasion. "Nicky Street will be an all inclusive restaurant and bar the same way Horizon Cafe is an all inclusive cafe," Cocalis said. "Our customer base reflects the neighborhood, regardless of orientation."

The menu at Nicky Street will include smoked meats, such as brisket and chicken wings, as well as veggie options and small plates. Management also touted flatbreads and a burger blended with brisket.

Bartenders will pour a bevy of craft beer and signature cocktails, as well as a selection of non-alcoholic drinks. Cocalis hopes customers will enjoy their spiked hot chocolate and coffees on cold days. Events including trivia and karaoke nights are also in the mix.

The space will feature a double-sided fireplace, TVs, and a patio. There's also a tribute to Lakeview, showing patrons how the area developed during Prohibition.

"I'm proud that we are going to augment an empty shell and transform it into a lively, fun, happening spot," Cocalis added.
