Roxie's By The Slice, the pizza joint helmed by Brendan Sodikoff, will finally open to the general public at 6 p.m. tonight.
Workers were busy at the storefront at 1732 N. Milwaukee Ave. applying last-minute touches. The times of operation were finally posted on the door, Tuesday through Saturday, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. That's late enough to soak up the alcohol from the customers patronizing the bars at the Milwaukee/North/Damen triangle.
They'll compete with nearby pizza joints Santullo's Eatery and Dimo's Pizza to quell nocturnal appetites. Roxie's held a soft opening on Thursday night with free slices and beer.
The interior, which has seating for 56, includes shelves stacked with canned tomatoes and other pizza ingredients, providing a rustic look, along with the wooden tables and chrome chairs. The main counter seats seven, right in front of the pizza oven. A set of 14 beverage taps stand affixed to the back wall to the left of that main counter.
Even Jon Stewart's dainty jaws might be pleased by Roxie's thin-crust, Brooklyn-style pizzas which run $4.50 a slice. Although no seats were left out this afternoon, there were decorative planters in a planned outdoor seating area that used to act as the parking lot of former tenant, Cafe Con Leche.
The opening was to happen in August, but delayed due to difficulties with city permits, according to DNA Info.
