The bustling food scene in Evanston gets a new entry starting today at 4:30 p.m. with the arrival of Ten Mile House (formerly named The Wood Shed) in the Central Station building. Ten Mile House, named in homage to "Evanston's first gathering point" founded in 1836, will seat 110 throughout its dining room, 25 at the bar and more in the outdoor patio (once warm weather returns to us).
From a team that includes Unite Urban Grill owner Joe Krouse and a kitchen headed up by Lettuce Entertain You vet Greg Carter, Ten Mile House is implementing a menu filled with comfort-food favorites alongside healthier items.
The wood-burning oven will crank out pizzas including The TMH which features house barbecue sauce, white cheddar, pork shoulder, thick cut bacon, roasted garlic and crispy onions. Guests will also have a plethora of ingredients to create their own pizzas as well. Also on the menu are starters of chicken chorizo sliders and gruyere fondue gratin; a vegetarian caponata "sub" and Ten Mile "gyros" featuring roasted leg of lamb with chimichurri sauce; a herb-basted grilled salmon salad; sides including grana padano polenta, and caramelized cauliflower; and entrees like herb bbq airline chicken that features vegetable hash. The oven and menu items of smoked meats seems to have inspired the dining room space. The bright, airy eating area features chopping block-like table tops and rustic wood flooring. Inside the dining room at the kitchen pass is a storage space for chunks of wood to feed that oven. Booths stationed at the windows feature bright orange backing, an eye catcher for street traffic. They'll be open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. with Friday service operating from 4:30 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. They are open on Saturday for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 a.m., and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Stay tuned for updates on when weekday lunch and weekend brunch begins.
