When Paul McGee was asked in July whether he restarted a tiki trend with Three Dots and a Dash, the LEYE cocktail guru said "no one (has opened another one) yet, but I'm sure it's coming." McGee was indeed a soothsayer, as sources within the Scofflaw Group tell Eater that the people behind two of the most popular bars in town, Scofflaw and Slippery Slope, are planning a tiki bar of their own.
Ownership is staying mum on the details for now, but it appears that this new tiki bar will open somewhere in Logan Square sometime in 2015. A more specific timeframe and the exact address are unknown at publication time, although they seem to have a space locked up.
Chicago bar trends may not be heading back to the 1950's and 60's, an era of tiki critical mass, but tiki bars are certainly trendy again. Stay tuned for more info on the Scofflaw Group's tiki project.
