Chicago cocktail enthusiasts will have to wait a few more months for Ben Schiller's new bar in Lincoln Square, but they can try one of his new cocktails now. The mixology maestro has created a special drink for Eater's Cocktail Week, the "5 Mile Horn," which is available all this week at The Berkshire Room.
Schiller describes the fall-themed cocktail, named for a nautical horn that can be heard within a 5-mile radius, as "strong but full of nuance" with "huge notes of molasses, baking spices, cinnamon, and orange peel." He combines Eldorado 5-year rum, tiki bitters, Averna and Aperol in a mixing glass and stirs with ice before straining into an antique coupe and expressing orange and grapefruit oil.
"I believe dark rum is perfect for autumn in Chicago," Schiller says, "and the spice notes offer a great seasonality of flavor without going all pumpkin spice latte on my guests." The "5 Mile Horn" is available all this week at The Berkshire Room for $12.
