RIVER NORTH—RPM Steak got a visit from President Barack Obama, in town to help aid Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's fundraising efforts. NBC5 reports that diners were surprised by the President's visit since it wasn't announced in advance. [NBC5/EaterWire]

OLD IRVING PARK—Homaro Cantu's coffee shop, Berrista, is finally shooting for a mid-October opening and will feature everything from donuts, to sodas, to chicken on a cheddar bacon waffle with maple mustard—and it will all be sugar-free. LOGAN SQUARE—Gaslight Coffee Roasters' new chef Jeremy Leven has revamped the café's food menu, bringing on such items as heirloom grits and a trout and bacon sandwich. Look for pop-up dinners in the space in November. [Zagat]
