Northwest Burbs Getting a Fine Dining, Vodka and Gambling Restaurant

Deka will serve Russian and French fusion in Wheeling.

Inspired by the longtime connection between Russian and French cuisine, a new fine-dining spotDeka, will make its debut in Wheeling this November. Ownership has redesigned a former Edwardo's Natural Pizza location at 401 E Dundee Road to incorporate sleek mid-century elements and a semi-private Vegas-style video gambling parlor.

Chef Michael Richie comes to Deka with a background at the iconic Le Francais—which was mere blocks away— and will partner the intricacies of the Russian and French cuisines in entrees such as lamb with wild cherries and beef paired with Himalayan sea salt and black truffle butter. A full bar stocked with more than 50 vodka flavors, however, serves as Deka's signature, with in-house infusions such as horseradish and honey at the forefront of its craft cocktail program.

"We're seeing a more sophisticated eater in the suburbs," partner Alex Vaysman says. Look for Deka to cater to those eaters—as well as gamblers and vodka drinkers—when it opens next month following a series of soft opening events.
