Giordano's is making the next move in the escalating local pizza battles—actually the next five moves. With the new South Loop location holding its grand opening tonight, the local pizza chain is planning to open five more Chicagoland restaurants in 2014. Giordano's currently has 41 locations.
Among the five, only two general locations are known: one in Andersonville and one somewhere in the northern suburbs. CEO Yorgo Koutsogiorgas notes that "business is on the upswing" in a statement, accounting for the broad expansion plans.
The South Loop location is the first new brick-and-mortar Giordano's location to open since 2011 (they also launched a food truck last year). Stop by at 6 p.m. to meet former Chicago Bear James "Big Cat" Williams and the Bears mascot. Rival Gino's East opened their large new restaurant last week in the former LaSalle Power Co space.
