Another gargantuan restaurant and bar is prepping to open in River North. BlackFinn Ameripub, part of an individually-owned chain with outposts in Austin, Texas and Merrifield, Virginia, finally has an opening date set for its Chicago location: September 19. Passersby in the highly-visible location at Clark and Kinzie have seen the signs wrap around the corner for months, and in 10 days they'll be able to go inside.
When those 10 days are up, what will those people be able to eat and drink? The menus feature many recognizable items from other American sports bar concepts: burgers (there's 10), starters like "chipotle queso dip" and shrimp spring rolls, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, steaks, pastas, fish, chicken, and desserts like "cookie sliders." A handful of options fill the "$10 special value lineup" lunch menu.
The drink menu is similar, offering two tap cocktails: a boozy iced tea and a take on a Moscow Mule. Four vodka cocktails line the "freshly squeezed" section, house specialties include a "Sex & the City Martini" and a "S'Mores Martini," the large beer list features mostly big-name breweries with a couple craft. The brunch menu is listed after the wine list.
Owner Michael Schultz feels that his concept "can bring value and provide casual food that people want to eat." Decide for yourself on September 19.
