When a second, and fast-casual, Bombay Spice location opened in Streeterville in July, an interesting factor was how much Dr. John Kapoor and his team would grow the Indian chain. It turns out that the number of local locations is going back down to one, as the sit-down Bombay Spice, which opened simultaneously with Roka Akor two years ago on Clark Street, closed for reconcepting over the weekend.
Felipe Ospina, now the director of marketing for Roka Akor and Bombay Spice, says the company realized that the fast-casual concept works better. And with the Streeterville location now open, they're looking to bring something different to the prime space in River North.
While the new concept isn't finalized yet, Ospina says the cuisine will be completely different and it will be "a little more hip, a little more sexy, a little more River North." They're hoping to reopen in 2-3 months.
