One of the most anticipated openings of the season will be revealed this weekend. Honey Butter Fried Chicken, the restaurant expanding on the cult following of the Sunday Dinner Club underground dinners (which will continue), is opening to the chicken-starved public on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The opening menu includes their signature "locally-sourced fried chicken with a big ol' dollop of honey butter" (duh), "farmer's market-driven veggie side dishes" (heirloom tomatoes, toasted corn and dill vinaigrette; red pepper sauce, Chinese broccoli and goat cheese; pimento mac and cheese with garlicky bread crumbs), and desserts ("Market Plum Dump Cake;" chocolate toffee cookies).
To drink, chef and co-owners Christine Cikowski and Joshua Kulp are offering craft beer (Half Acre, Revolution, Two Brothers, 5 Rabbit and Lakefront) and "economy" beer (High Life, Tecate, Hamm's). Cocktail selections include the "Coriander Sangrita" (tomato, corazon blanco tequila, lime, can of Tecate) and the "Avondale Ginger Mule" (molasses, ginger, Death's Door Gin, lime, mint). They'll also offer wine.
The space holds 60 seats and an outdoor back patio (weather permitting). They'll start with dinner service every night but Tuesdays, lunch service will begin in "a couple weeks."
