An iconic Chicago dive bar as about to close for good after being temporarily saved. Marie's Rip Tide Lounge on Armitage, in business since 1951, is shuttering on Saturday, DNAinfo reports. The bar almost closed in January, was kept alive by a private investor in February, but has apparently buckled under the weight of financial stress.
The building on 1751 W. Armitage will be sold by owner Tina Congenie on September 5 to neighboring contractors. It's unknown at this point what will become of the building after that. Original owner Marie Wuczynski passed away in 2011 and Congenie took over.
If you want one last look at the place, or to own an actual piece of the place, they're holding "a big party Saturday, with all kinds of memorabilia on the bar."
